“Path of Flower Lights”

The designers group of Bamboo Lights “CHIKAKEN” have produced roughly 500 bamboo lights and lighting-up cultural property “Sacred Gate” which is said to be relocated from Kyoto Imperial Palace.

Hana-Mandara

Walking through a soft-lighted "Path of Flower Lights" and into the holy gate, you will witness an open and mysterious world. The most prominent object in this space is "Hana-Mandara“. If you take a close look, you are sure to be fascinated by its various delicate designs. On the other hand, if you look at it from a distance, you should be overwhelmed by the three-dimensional and spectacular atmosphere created by the bamboo lights. Moreover, from the gradation of the "Hana-Mandara" in Red, Green and Blue, you can feel the changes of the flowers and plants through the four seasons.

“CHIKAKEN” is a designers unit formed mainly by CHIKAO IKEDA and KENSHI MISHIRO who they met at Sojo university in Kumamoto.
They established “CHIKAKEN” in April 2007 based on the thought “developing communities through festivals” proposed by their master Keiichi Uchimaru.
They are based in Kumamoto but continue to create “scenery” and “stories” utilizing the uniqueness of respective places throughout the nation.
Through bamboo lights, they aim to create a new Japanese 'culture' that connects 'people and people', 'people and communities', and 'people and nature’.

CHIKAKEN’s message

We are convinced that "HANA AKARI" is a scenery that Japan can be proud of to the world. We are directing bamboo lights in various places in Japan, hoping to develop “TAKE AKARI” as a new culture. "HANA AKARI" is a unique space where the charm of the place and bamboo lights blend together in our works.

This year marks the third year, and we have added more sophisticated production.

We hope that the bamboo lights through this historical space will lead to healing and enjoyment for everyone, and be a lamplight of hope for the world in the exhausted situation amid COVID-19.

We look forward to seeing many visitors in "HANA AKARI".

Walking path lit by bamboo lanterns.
